About the Scholarship :
In 2018, the Birkbeck School of Social Sciences, History and Philosophy awards up to seven full scholarships to PhD students.
These scholarships are for PhD projects related to the interests and research skills of the school’s six constituent departments. A prize is dedicated to an interdisciplinary project.

Our vibrant, dynamic community hosts more than 200 students, supported by award-winning front line researchers in their field.Our doctoral students receive support and guidance from their departments and graduate school in Birbeck, and participate in the university’s academic life. Our Ph.D. students have a variety of careers, including academic positions at leading universities in Europe and North America.

- The scholarships include a waiver of commission up to the value of a full house / EU rate for the MPHIL / PhD degree (£ 4,195 in 2017/8), in addition to the annual scholarship 2017 rate stipulated in the Research Council Rates (£ 16,553). 8, including London Weighting); Proportional in the case of a part-time break.

We are also pleased to receive requests for interdisciplinary projects, including gender, sexuality and sociology.
- This competition is aimed primarily at new students from the European Union and international students who apply for full-time study in administration / promotion in the areas mentioned above. Applications for part-time studies will also be considered proportionately and with a prolonged duration.
The competition is based on academic achievements. The scholarships will be awarded at the end of spring 2018 in the school year 2018/9. They will be viable for a period of up to 3 years (provided that the holder performs satisfactorily, as assessed by the regular higher education institutions for examining the performance of a PhD).
Please note that in order to apply for funding, prospective students must complete an application for a place at Birkbeck on an MPhil/PhD programme offered by one of the Departments listed above, either before, or at the same time as, applying for funding. Your application for a scholarship will not be considered if you have not applied for an MPhil/PhD programme.
