Diversity Immigrant Visa 2021 (DV Lottery) Qualified Green Card
This section of the website explains the entry process (also called “registration”) for the Diversity Immigrant Visa 2021 (DV) program, which is the first step in pursuing a Diversity Immigrant Visa . The additional steps are described on the following pages and are displayed on the visual flowchart above.
Section 203 (c) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) provides for a category of immigrants called “diversity immigrants”, who come from countries with historically low immigration rates to the United States. A limited number of visas are available each fiscal year. The DVs are spread over six geographic regions and no country can receive more than seven percent of the available DVs in the same year.
The requirements for the DV program are established by US immigration law. If you are planning to enroll in the DV program, be sure to look carefully at the requirements for this type of visa.
Note: Registration for the DV program is free.
The online registration period for the DV-2021 program will last from noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT-4), Wednesday October 2, 2019, until noon, Eastern Standard Time (EST) ) (GMT-5), Tuesday, November 5, 2019.
Applicants must submit applications for the DV-2021 program electronically to dvlottery.state.gov. Registration for the DV program is free. Do not wait until the last week of the registration period to participate, as high demand can cause delays to the website. No late registration or paper will be accepted.
The law only allows one registration per or for each person during each registration period. The State Department uses sophisticated technology to detect multiple entrances. People with more than one entry submitted will be disqualified. Please keep your printed confirmation screen containing your name and a unique confirmation number for your records.
As from May 5, 2020, the results of the DV-2021 Visa Lottery Program will be available online. You will be able to verify the status of your registration through the Participant Status Check on the E-DV website at https://dvlottery.state.gov/ using your unique confirmation number and personal information.
This will be the only way to check if your entry has been selected. If you lose your confirmation number, a special tool to recover it is available on the E-DV website. If your entry is selected, you will be directed to a confirmation page which will provide additional instructions, including information on fees related to immigration to the United States.
If selected, we encourage you to quickly complete DS-260 visa applications. The Embassy will process DV-2021 visa lottery cases from October 1, 2020 until September 30, 2021.
