Brief Description about the Scholarship
Applications are invited for AS Hornby Educational Trust scholarships for study in the UK between October 2018 and September 2019. Scholarships are awarded each year to English language teachers from outside the UK for Masters in ELT at the University of Warwick. The trust was set up by AS Hornby in 1961 to support English teaching worldwide. A. S. Hornby had a remarkable career in teaching English and developed the Oxford Advanced Learners’ Dictionary, which is still published in its 8th edition by Oxford University Press. The Trust is a registered charity in the UK.
The Hornby Scholarships are designed to support experienced English teachers who have the potential to make a significant contribution to teaching English and teachers in their countries
Benefits of the Scholarship
- Scholarships cover all costs in the UK, including a monthly scholarship to cover housing and living expenses, tuition and return tickets, tuition, visa and IELTS test costs.
- The scholarship is eligible for all Nationality
- Applicants for the scholarship must have at least two years of full-time English teaching and a full university degree.
- Applicants also require the level of English proficiency required by the university (this is usually judged according to IELTS – Scholars require an overall grade of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in any of the categories and 6.5 for writing).
Applicants are selected in a four-step process:
Online Application Form – Applicants submit the online application form for initial assessment
Interview – Applicants who succeed at the first level will be invited for an interview at the Bureau of the British Council in their country of origin
Application to the university – Applicants selected from the interview are invited to apply at the university
Adopted by the University – The scholarship will be confirmed with the applicant and arrangements will be made to arrive in the UK by 1 October 2018
